Handmade Copper-Gilded Green Glass Dish
Handmade Copper-Gilded Green Glass Dish
This is an individually made glass dish, made from vintage translucent french glass which I fused in my Welsh studio. The individual pieces are fused together, but remain visible still, giving a lovely texture to the piece. A lot of my work is inspired by the countryside and this is no exception.
I love the way the light bouces around and through this piece and the look of the piece changes depending on its location in the room and the time of day.
Once fused, at around 800 degrees C in a process that takes about 24 hours, I then put it back in the kiln to slump the panel into a shallow dish shape. This takes another day.
Once cooled I then gild the underside of the piece. This one is actually gilded with copper to complement the green glass. This is a piece for decoration rather than use, and you can consider putting it on a reflective surface so you get to see both sides at once.
Overall the piece is around 24cm by 10cm and 4cm high at the ends.
